ESPN will televise part of Wimbledon through 2013, agreeing to a six-year contract extension with The All England Club. The network announced Thursday that ESPN2 will air about 100 hours of the tournament each year, including one men's and one women's semifinal. As part of the new deal, ESPN will show matches online.
Teenager Madison Brengle and former South African player Liezel Huber could appear for the star-deprived U.S. team in the Fed Cup semifinals against Russia. Brengle, an 18-year-old right-hander from Dover, Del., was one of the four players chosen Wednesday to represent the Americans next weekend in the best-of-five series.

Marat Safin overcame a two-set deficit to defeat Tomas Berdych 6-7 (5), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 Friday and help Russia hold on for a 1-1 split against the Czech Republic on the opening day of the Davis Cup quarterfinals. In the second match of the best-of-five series, Radek Stepanek defeated Igor Andreev 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.


Australia and India took big strides toward qualification for the Davis Cup World Group by seizing 2-0 leads Friday in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group One. Australia leads Thailand after Chris Guccione overcame three match points to defeat Danai Udomchoke 6-7 (3), 7-6 (6), 4-6, 7-6 (6), 7-5. Lleyton Hewitt cruised past Kirati Siributwong 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.
Lleyton Hewitt and Paul Hanley won their Davis Cup doubles match against Thailand on Saturday to secure Australia a berth in the playoffs for the 2009 World Group. Hewitt and Hanley beat Weerapat Doakmaiklee and Kirati Siributwong 6-3, 6-1, 6-0, adding to Friday's two singles victories to tie to secure a 3-0 win in their Asia/Oceania zone Group One second round tie.
