Jankovic limps into Wimbledon 4th round (AP)

Jelena Jankovic hobbled into the second week of Wimbledon after injuring her knee. Whether she actually plays is another matter. Jankovic, seeded second, faced break point in the second set Saturday after losing the opener. It seemed Wimbledon was about to become the first Grand Slam of the Open era with the top three seeded women failing to make the fourth round.

Royal box hosts sporting stars

A host of sporting stars, Olympics movers-and-shakers and Wimbledon legends have been invited to occupy the best seats on Centre Court, but the loudest welcome was reserved for Tim Henman, a year after his retirement.

Queueing for Britain?

At 8am there were more than 5,000 people in Wimbledon’s new super-queue waiting for tickets for the middle Saturday. At the same time last year there less than than 3,000. Why the increase in numbers?

Mirza salutes Indian fans

Indian fans were out in force to support Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi in the first round of the mixed doubles. But the pair fell to Russians Igor Andreev and Maria Kirilenko in straight sets.

One to watch: Victoria Azarenka

Victoria Azarenka, the No.16 seed, has made a splendid and speedy start to Wimbledon, winning both her matches in straight sets, but has kept a low profile. That could be set to change if the Belarussian keeps up her winning ways.

Jankovic plays down injury worry

Second seed Jelena Jankovic is confident she will be fit to play in the fourth round despite suffering a leg injury in her three-set victory over Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki. “It’s very sore now but I don’t think there will be a problem,” she said.

British juniors show promise

Nine British girls and 11 boys will test themselves against the world’s best at this year’s Wimbledon Junior Championships. The LTA has invested heavily in their development and there are encouraging signs of progress being made.
