Justine Henin is certain that she’s done playing tennis. “I don’t think I will ever come back. I think that it’s important just to move on,” Henin said at Roland Garros on Saturday, the day before the French Open starts. Earlier this month, she became the first woman to retire while No. 1 in the WTA rankings, opting not to try for a fourth consecutive French Open championship.

Hamilton Jordan, a political strategist behind Jimmy Carter’s successful 1976 run to the White House, was later a prominent figure in the world of tennis. Jordan, who died Tuesday at his Atlanta home at 63, led the formation of the men’s professional tennis circuit in the late 1980s. He served as the first chief executive of the ATP Tour when it began operations in 1990.

Bangalore, not Mumbai to host ATP event (AP)

Bangalore will replace the country’s financial capital of Mumbai when the ATP Tour holds a tennis tournament in India this year. The ATP, the governing body for men’s professional tennis, announced the switch Tuesday. The Mumbai event was hampered by heavy rain during its two years. Bangalore, in southern India, hosted the ATP World Doubles Championship in 2000.

Roddick withdraws from French Open (AP)

Andy Roddick, the highest-ranked American man, withdrew from the French Open on Monday because of a right shoulder injury. The sixth-ranked Roddick, who lost in the first round at Roland Garros the last two years, pulled out of the semifinals of the Rome Masters on May 10. He then skipped the Hamburg Masters last week, but had been expected to play this week at the World Team Cup in Duesseldorf.

Wayne Odesnik gave the United States a point at the World Team Cup on Sunday by beating Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-1. The Americans trailed 1-0 after Tomas Berdych beat James Blake 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), but the 104th-ranked Odesnik brought the Americans even at 1-1 in the Red Group. At the World Team Cup, eight teams are split into two groups.
