Henin wins WTA Tour player of year award (AP)

Yahoo! Sports - Tennis News Top-ranked Justine Henin received the WTA Tour player of the year award for the second time in her career Thursday. Henin won 10 of the 14 events she entered in 2007, including the French and U.S. Open, and she became the first woman to earn more than $5 million in prize money. She also won the award for 2003.

Safin, a two-time Grand Slam champion, fell to 1-5 in 2008. He hasn’t won a title since the 2005 Australian Open, and his ranking has fallen from 56th to 90th since the start of the year.
