Vera Zvonareva, who has been bothered by a left wrist injury for months, withdrew from Wimbledon on Monday. The 19th-ranked Russian also missed the French Open because of the injury. She has not played since retiring while trailing Dinara Safina in the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup in April. Zvonareva will be replaced by Aleksandra Wozniak.
Justine Henin wants to win Wimbledon for her family and friends. The top-ranked Belgian, who won the French Open for the fourth time this month but still needs a title at the All England Club to complete a career Grand Slam, is preparing for next week's Wimbledon by playing at the grass-court tournament in Eastbourne.

Andy Roddick benefited from the replay system at Queen's Club on Thursday, then held on to beat Alex Bogdanovic of Britain 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the third round of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament. Roddick, who had 22 aces, was tied at 5-5 in the tiebreaker when he asked for Hawk-Eye to challenge a call.

Guillermo Coria, once the No. 3-ranked tennis player in the world, is suing a New Jersey supplement manufacturer, claiming its steroid-contaminated vitamins led to a positive drug test and a suspension that cost him millions. In a trial set to begin Monday in New Jersey Superior Court in New Brunswick, N.J., Coria will seek to clear his name and will ask a jury to award him in excess of $10 million...


Mario Ancic withdrew from Wimbledon on Thursday because of a continuing illness, and Li Na pulled out with a rib injury. Ancic, who was seeded 18th, reached the semifinals at the All England Club in 2004. He has been sidelined for months with mononucleosis, and also pulled out of the French Open last month.
After all the injuries and all the setbacks, Anna Kournikova longs for the big stage of world-class tennis. "Nothing will ever compare to being on the court," she said Monday. "I miss the actual matches and 7-6 in the third, and playing in front of 20,000 people and the adrenalin rush." James Blake lost in slippery conditions to Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-3 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Gerry Weber Open. The 34th-ranked German broke Blake's serve at love to take a 5-4 lead in the first set, then got another break at 4-3 in the second in front of 8,000 cheering home fans at the grass-court warmup for Wimbledon.


Third-ranked Jelena Jankovic rallied to defeat Maria Kirilenko 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 Friday in the third round of the DFS Classic. Top-seeded Maria Sharapova's match against Austrian teenager Tamira Paszek was postponed for a second day because of rain. Jankovic advanced to the quarterfinals despite being hampered by a sore neck.
Bjorn Borg was severely bitten in the leg by a German shepherd while trying to stop a dogfight and withdrew from his first grass-court match in 26 years. The five-time Wimbledon champion was bitten in his right leg when he tried to pull the dog, Wolf, away from his golden retriever, Lipton, at his home in Sweden over the weekend.

Andy Roddick won his fourth Queen's Club title Sunday, saving match point in the second set before beating France's Nicolas Mahut 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (2) in the final of the grass-court tuneup for Wimbledon. Roddick, seeded second, also won from 2003-05 and joined Lleyton Hewitt, Boris Becker and John McEnroe as four-time winners of this event.


Roger Federer withdrew from his traditional grass-court warmup for Wimbledon on Monday, citing fatigue one day after losing to Rafael Nadal in the French Open final. In four consecutive years, Federer has won the Gerry Weber Open title and then gone on to win Wimbledon. A cheerleading coach at the prep school founded by tennis star Andre Agassi has been arrested in an undercover prostitution sting. Las Vegas police said Friday that 36-year-old Esperanza Brooks was arrested Wednesday night in a Las Vegas restaurant after agreeing to deliver three prostitutes and drugs to undercover detectives at a hotel-casino.
