Emilie Loit and Flavia Pennetta advanced to the finals of the Mexico Open on Friday. Loit, seeded 10th and ranked No. 52, defeated Julie Schruff 0-6, 6-2, 6-1. The fifth-seeded Pennetta ousted Sara Errani 6-2, 6-4. Loit reached the semifinals of this event last year, but fell against Ana Lena Groenefeld.

Mario Ancic, ranked No. 11, will be sidelined from tennis for at least two months because of mononucleosis. The Croat has a mild case and is expected to fully recover, tennis officials said Thursday. He will miss tournaments in Indian Wells, Calif., and Miami, but could return for the French Open, which starts May 27.
