Top-ranked Amelie Mauresmo withdrew from the Porsche Grand Prix on Thursday because of a right shoulder injury. The Frenchwoman pulled out shortly before she was to play her first match of the tournament against Michaella Krajicek in the second round. Lisa Raymond has taken Mauresmo's place in the draw as the highest-ranked loser in qualifying.

Ivanovic, the runner-up at the French Open and a Wimbledon semifinalist, had numerous errors against the hard-hitting Ukrainian.
Stefan Koubek was disqualified from the Open de Moselle on Thursday for directing an on-court tirade at a tournament official during a match with Sebastien Grosjean. Koubek, who will face a fine, led 5-7, 7-6 (4), 4-2 when the second-round match was interrupted. The Austrian was angered after Grosjean protested a linesman's call on his serve.
Maria Sharapova withdrew from the Fed Cup semifinals against the United States because of a right shoulder injury. In a statement posted on her Web site Tuesday, the 2006 U.S. Open champion said she had a "tremendous amount of swelling" and doctors advised her to rest her shoulder for the next 10 days.
Former U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters may miss the French Open and limit her farewell season further to reduce the risk of injury. Clijsters, ranked fourth in the world, pulled out of this week's Open Gaz de France in Paris because of a sore hip to ensure she could play in next week's Diamond Games in Antwerp -- her last tournament in her Belgian homeland before retiring at the end of the year.
Patrick McEnroe received a two-year contract extension Monday to stay on as captain of the U.S. Davis Cup team, charged with ending the country's longest title drought since the competition began in 1900. If McEnroe does remain in the job through 2008, he would tie Tom Gorman (1986-93) for the longest tenure as U.S.
