Radek Stepanek upset second-seeded James Blake 7-6 (7), 5-7, 6-2 to win the ATP Countrywide Classic on Sunday. It was the second career title for Stepanek, who entered the match with a 13-15 record this season. He advanced to the final when wild card Nicolas Kiefer of Germany withdrew due to a sore knee.

Two-time finalist Filippo Volandri ended a seven-match losing streak when he beat Italian compatriot Flavio Cippola 6-1, 6-4 in the first round of the Croatia Open on Monday. Volandri, the runner-up in 2003 and 2004 who has never failed to reach the quarterfinals in five previous visits, won for the first time since Barcelona in April.
First-round play on the opening day of the Austrian Open was postponed because of rain Monday.
